Bits of My Weeked : Pop Culture Afternoon

Two weeks ago, I discovered a newly-renovated bridge from Vivo City that leads you all the way to the Sentosa gateway. I casually mentioned this over dinner on Friday during one of the monthly meet-ups I have with the girls.

BIG MISTAKE.

The next thing I knew, we were casually strolling to the island with no plans in mind -- and it was just a mere 80 minutes away from the stroke of midnight, mind you. The place was deserted except for some bakeries and restaurants which were opened 24/7. Before a unanimous 'WTF were we thinking?' feeling sank into our little heads, we decided to turn it into a little adventure, pretending to be lost tourists (Well actually, we were really lost -- it was DARK) ooh-ing and aah-ing at every novelty items, monuments and statues.

After walking around aimlessly for about half an hour and confirming that there was no where else to go, we finally rested our exhausted butts and limbs at the nearby coffee joint. The spontaneity of that moment made me smile. It kinda makes you realise that sometimes doing something out of the ordinary can make a simple day seem extraordinary... :) (More photos from our little adventure can be found at Sharmilee's blog)

The same goes for my weekend when my husband and I decided to abandon the couch for an impromptu trip to town. The catch was, we were to not spend any money seeing that we have already busted our budget this month. We took a long bus ride instead of the cab and train, went for fast food instead of a bistro or a steakhouse and resisted any temptation to spend when we frequented our usual book and music stores. I know its nothing much, I'm not claiming it to be - but at the end of the day, we felt pretty proud of ourselves. Taking control of things, even as trivial as not spending that extra $10 do give you a sense of fulfillment and best thing yet, you still have fun in the process. So what's not to like?!

So it goes without saying that I have been rather inconsistent with my posts lately and have not been updating any entries for the past one month. Nothing to be concerned about. I have been spending a lot of me-time lately, soul-searching, if you will and adapting to the changes that's been going on around me as well as finding ways on how I could improve myself, as a person, a wife and a muslim. It all starts with baby steps though.

I've started to read again. I've completely forgotten how much I love the smell of used books and the little thrill i get when I turn the crisp wood-free textured page of a new book. I love Penguin books and I got so excited looking at the new pocket-size collection of classic literature and stories I used to read in my teens.

I, no, we (my husband and I) have been looking into our health as well. We started to work out, eat supplements and lesser fast food and went for the medical screenings to ensure that we are at our prime of health. The husband even bought himself a pair of new grey trainers!

We've also been spending a lot of quality time together and planning our finances to ensure a better future as a family. We off to a good start, and may Allah reward and bless us in time to come, Insya'allah.

Had plenty of First Times this weekend. Attended my first fash bash at Great World with my lovely ladies and flew a kite of the first time evuuuh on Sunday. I also got reacquainted with my camera after banishing it for weeks in a solitary dry box. Took it out, fell in love with it all over again and even got to use it during these two days. Lovely weekend, lovely weather, lovely people. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Oh wait, i can. I also got a pair of oxfords after searching for the perfect one for months. NOW, i can't ask for anything more.

DP Spring Party

My mouth hurts from too much laughing, my tummy full from too much eating and my feet hurt from too much shopping. Nothing new. Just another brilliant day with these crazy bunch -- although its been a while since we did hung out during the day. The fashion event wasn't too exciting for me and their collection did not exactly satiate my shopping lust. In fact, I left the store with only a single silver ring (despite the tempting 20% discount offer). Nevertheless, I had a blast, it's been a wonderful weekend so far and I'm exhausted!

My life hasn't been particularly exciting of late due to A's hectic schedule at work and my time spent recuperating at home after the recent health scare. However, I'm quite thankful that we have family around us to come by anytime and make the days seem a little bit shorter instead of longer.

Don't really have much interesting things to post this week. Next week will be better, I promise.

Excuse me now, while I go pick up a hobby, or two.

Last month was hectic. This month, the universe seems to be telling me to slow down as I've been getting bouts of body ailments that left me feeling more worried than scared. I've always been a restless person. I get that from my father I guess, who's constant zest for life and learning always leave us breathless, trying to catch up with the new things he brought with him. Even at the age of 51, he still fascinates me with the things he learn off the internet. The point is, it has always been in my genetic configuration that keeping still is never an option. Even when the body's still, the mind's always working.

So it freaked me out a few days ago, when I woke up with an acute vertigo - feeling as though the room was spiralling - and having aches in my joints and pain in my abdomen. It went away as quickly as they came although the lightheaded-ness still persist sporadically. I'm praying it's nothing bad. I think it's nothing serious but I'll still be going to the doctor to have it checked.

For now, I'll take it as a quick reminder that once in a while, you need to stop. And breathe. And there shouldn't be any guilt in doing so.

Barely a week after their wedding, the newlyweds are already back to spending a typical day whacking the whammy bars at our home. We had some friends over on Friday evening and we spent the night until 4am to an acoustic chill-out session. It's been a while since we did this and even though I was the first to end the night (my eyes couldn't hold up any longer no matter how much I wanted to) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The next day, my brother came over with a dvd documentary boxset called 'Exit through a Gift Shop' featuring some well-known street artists such as the elusive and enigmatic Banksy, the eccentric Mr Brainwash, Shephard Fairey of OBEY and Invader. I appreciate arts in all its form but the underground street art scene is something to be in awe about as its a hidden throve of the world's most creative works built upon the underbelly of some pretty exciting and legally compromising projects. And most, if not all, of the artworks are expressions of some political and/or social statements. Which is such a waste since street arts are transient, unlike commercial paintings and art you see in galleries. Anywho, it's a great film. Go watch it if you can.

Here Comes the Bride

Finally, the BIG day arrived! Syukur alhamdullilah, everything went smoothly. The newlyweds were absolutely glowing as they sat coyly on the dias. There were plenty of cheers and tears of joy for the unbelievably disney ending of the gorgeous, indie couple! Here's wishing you both happiness and a blissful, everlasting marriage!

Been around too many teal, purple and pinks lately. So much, that it has been sumbliminally affecting how I dress as well. The prep for Wardah's candy bar has been great. We scoured Bugis, Paper Market, Spotlight and Daiso for the props and decorations and it has been fun (When has shopping ever been not fun?). It's tough though, trying to create a romantic-vintage decoration without making it look too floral and...matronly. I got into a delirious frenzy over crochet doilies for god's sake! Too pretty to resist! I hope to balance out the decor by incorporating a touch of modern prints and design. I don't think I'd want people to think that her candy bar was designed by a 58-year-old woman!

Hippie Hippie Shake

A surprise bridal shower cum tea party thrown in honor of the bride-to-be was thankfully, perfectly executed. The theme was Bohemian and the location was at West Coast park. I, willing alibi, held my tongue and lied through my teeth when I was given the tough job of making sure that Wardah was brought to the park without suspecting anything! The girls decorated the picnic area so beautifully, especially Siqin who put in time and effort into all the cute little print outs, balloons and food too pretty to be eaten. More photos to be up later! 1 more week, Wardah! Excited much???

The weekend wasn't particularly exciting, but it was a nice change as we needed to take a short breather and just spend some time to ourselves at home. Having finally gotten my hands on the new issue of Frankie was a case of good timing.

In my previous BoMW entry, i mentioned about going to a bundle store in JB and walking away with some 'loot'. I posted a long entry showcasing the stuff we bought, but I didn't like it as it sounded as if we were bragging about our shopping haul. So I deleted it. Instead, I thought I'd just share two of my favourites - which is the picture of the jackets above. We got those for less than SGD$5 each. I can't stress enough on how much I love old denim. The material is softer with decades of wear and clings to your body a lot more comfortably. The army green jacket is something I'd been meaning to get and it had never occured to me to get it second-hand at a much cheaper price. My husband picked that out for himself but I told him clearly that that jacket's something that we have to share.

The last photo made me laugh. My husband's lovely - and I don't say that enough. He does the silliest things at the oddest of moment and for no apparent reason. I like to tease him about how predictable he is - he is a creature of habit at most times - but then he'll do silly things like that, that'll make you burst out laughing even when you are supposed to be angry at the world.

If you're wondering why I'm out of the frame, that's because I wasn't contributing any effort to piecing that camera AT ALL. I was happier capturing the process and observing the enraptured expressions and looks of determination that were brandished on these two siblings' faces. Oh and of course, the look of pure joy on my husband's face when it was finally completed. Why not? After all, this was gift from a friend which he had kept for more than four years and had been left forgotten, until today.

Bokehs and Light Leaks

I've been experimenting with the combination of effects available in iDarkroom, Hipstamatic and Instagram and these were the results. Light leaks and bokehs are my new favourites.

P/S This is totally off-topic but is it weird that I felt compelled to end all my blog post with a 'Warmest regards, Fiz' every single time? Been writing like waaay too many emails lately.

Gah..I'm turning into such a lazy blogger, honestly! I'm hoping that my photos will suffice so I don't have to type any words into my entry..not even captions. It's getting harder to think of stuff to write, especially when you are in front of your computer with your hands hovering above your keyboard while your brain cells die a million deaths..and yet, still NOTHING.

Ok, dramatics aside, it was a good, wet weekend. Good, because A wasn't working, so I spent alot of time with him and his family and mine. Wet, because of the flash rain which I quietly rejoiced at, because it gave me a reason to put on my new red angora beret and jump around in muddy puddles.

We also went to Pandan City at Johor on Sunday and OMG, the loot that we came back with! Details on this will be one my next entry I swear!

We had a little bit of a happy news this weekend as A got called for an interview for a new job. We're both hoping he'll get it as he's been waiting for a change of environment. I'm hoping he'll get it because it means a better salary but I'm rooting for anything that makes him happier too, of course. Insya'allah and all the best, love!

1, 2 & 3) Everyone's been busy these week throughout the weekend helping our little sister prepare her wedding favors. Can't believe its only a month away! I love the colors of the wrapping paper that she has picked out.

4) Don't you just love the cardi + checkered shirt + pale blue tie combo? We went shopping for the shirt and tie on Sunday -- a very tough thing for me to do because i'm personally on a shop-batical until next month. SAD.

5) The close-up of the tie, his first one since a very loooong time. He doesn't wear ties often but I thought it would be a nice touch. Its a simple pale blue one with a silver line and navy dots.A slim cut one will suit his thin frame nicely so we chose this. We were mulling over the outfit that he should wear for the interview and got a stroke of inspiration when we were watching 500 Days of Summer on Saturday. Joseph-Gordon Levitt, you're a definite fash-muse!

6)OK, let me reiterate that i AM STILL on a shop-batical. So I'm very excited to blog about this as this was ordered a month ago and only arrive recently. I've been lusting over a jersey madi skirt over at River Island which would've set me back a costly $79. So when I discovered these at a Korean online shop selling at $8 only, I was completely over the moon!I purchased two -- one in charcoal grey and the other in dusty pink. I'm usually not a skirt person so when I wore this, i felt totally unlike myself. It's only a simple charcoal skirt but damn I felt princess-y already. Haha what a lunatic.

Ten minutes into the concert, our digital camera died. Appalled and desperate, I had to rely heavily on my mobile to capture these shots. So forgive me if you cannot make out the shapes of Kazu and her Italian et ceteras in these photographs.

This was a concert that I did not know any of the song lyrics to and had no idea what the names of the individual band members were. Well, except for Kazu, of course. I was reluctant and coerced into going for this gig and was a bit sceptical that I would even enjoy it.

But I did.

Once again, the sound system at Esplanade did not disappoint and the concert was a visual treat - second only to last year Imogen Heap's gig (which was truly orgasmic, btw). I STILL don't know any of the songs and I couldn't make out any of the words Kazu was singing to but I didn't feel cheated out of my evening. So I guess, thats a good thing, right?

I'm loving this new app I downloaded via appstore, and have been using it more often than how a person who used to scoff at artificial lomo apps should. The weekend gave me plenty of opportunities to snap more photos but as I had mentioned previously, I have poor photography reflex, which means these are the only shots I took of following :

1, 2 & 3 ) Material hunting @ Arab Street with the Family, followed by a good lunch at Kg Glam Cafe

4) Marha's Wedding at Jurong. Yes, sadly, no photos of the bride and groom. Only photos of the post-awesome-briyani-lunch + yakking session

5) My new favourite item hanging off the rack at this moment. Been looking for a union jack cushion/bean bag for our balcony since like forever and I got this grunge-looking tee instead. Well, beggers can't be choosers.

Last weekend was amazingly long. Thanks to the Chinese New Year holidays, I got a 5-day long staycation (couldn't go on vacation as A had to work) and spent most of the time with my family. It was Amy's birthday, so we threw a mini celebration with just my family and some of his close friends.

We also got acquainted with his most decadent present ever - the apple iPad (installed with an awesome digital synth/sampler app) from Shikin, which meant that half the time, the boys were in our leisure room jamming to some digital beats. Happy 25th baby brother. (Ok so you are not exactly a baby, but in my eyes, all of you are still the ~~cute but~~ annnoying little toddlers-in-diapers that Mummy made me lug around everywhere whenever I meet my friends.)

Spending too much time at home also meant that I had plenty of time to look into every nook and cranny of the worst parts of my house. That was also when I decided that I had to de-clutter my accessories drawer as it was not exactly working out for me. I keep my accessories hidden in a small plastic drawer tucked away deep in my wardrobe -- to a point where I practically forgot they exists. So with a small improvisation done to a wooden hanger and a 3M hook, I now have them hanging shiny and proud, right beside my full length mirror. Ok so maybe I'm not exactly the McGuyver of the 21st Century, but ohwells, it works.

Bits of My Weekends : Laneway Festival '11

Seriously, if I had an award to give to the best Bits of My Weekends bit, this one takes the cake!!! Last weekend was...omg indescribable! I'd roll over backwards just to share the pure exhilaration of the music festival that is Laneway... but you know what, one HAD to be there to know exactly what we felt!

The lineup was unbelievable. The band that kicked off the performance was Warpaint. Followed by Ladyhawke, Beach House and Deerhunter. Energy was there but not so much. Crowd was also starting to flow in and the rain was pretty docile..IF that was the word to describe rain that wasn't TORRENTIAL yet! We didn't know what was coming! By the time the Canadian-based Holy Fuck played their first song, it became a literal 'Holy Fuck!' of sorts! Energy became frantic, the crowd were enraptured and the people near the front of the stage where we standing were dancing rhythmical to the synth beats and crying out their name. Holy Fuck ruled the sound waves and Brian and Graham are gods on analogs.

There was no turning back when Chk Chk Chk!,Yeasayers, Foals and Tempar Trap took over the stage after that. Energy was superhigh and supercharged, pelts of rain were beating hard on our foreheads and wearing a poncho is a futile effort. Nevertheless, there were plenty of smiles to go around.

What's next ? Glaston?!

Wardah's birthday fell on the 15th, so we surprised her with a small brownie cake and a candle at the stroke of midnight. It was a celebration of sorts although there was only her fiancee, A and myself. We gave her the tote bag that was specially designed for her and she seemed deliriously happy with it (we hope so!).

The husband was down with a nasty bug so there wasn't much activity done over the weekend. As he had to spend the day at home recuperating, I used the time to clear out our wardrobe - a cumbersome task; one which I had been procrastinating to do for about some time now. Our wardrobe was overflowing with t-shirts and other pieces of clothing which we barely even wear anymore. A has the knack of wearing the same tshirts over and over again until the colours run out over constant washing. And because he complains CONSISTENTLY about how little t-shirts he owns, I decided to start a small little project cataloging his entire tshirt collection. Trust me, this is only part of it and it is NOT little.

We overdosed on Michael Cera over the weekend as it was a back-to-back movie marathon of our fave indie flicks - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Youth in Revolt. (OK, so we managed to squeeze in Kick Ass for some action sequence). While I've watched the first two before, that was the first time I watched Youth in Revolt. I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about the movie but I DO know that somehow after it was over, I sort of had a new-found appreciation for the French culture and pencil-thin mustaches. I haven't yet decided on what I would do with this new discovery, probably nothing, but I'll keep you posted.

I also made some pastas on Sun, only because I had some leftover ingredients from Monday's party. I didn't get to eat any of the pasta I made on Monday so I gorged on it on Sunday, only cause I could. Naturally, I had a massive stomach ache afterwards.

I finally tried on the pretty Mint nail colour I purchased online last month. I could only wear nail polishes certain time of the month. For the uninitiated, don't ask me why as I can't exactly explain the reasons without getting dirty with the details. What I can say is that (a) while it looked awesome on the first day, by the second day I should have realised that a top coat is essential (b) nail polish is yucky tasting and that nail biters SHOULD NOT be wearing nail colours. I learnt it the hard way when some Mint polish ended up on my teeth.

I made some new purchases as well - a fancy blue external hard disk + mouse (I made sure they look pretty so I'd at least have something to look at at work on Monday.) and snazzy brown loafers I'd been searching for, for weeks. Ok, so the loafers are a cheap boring old brown number but I like mixing boring old numbers with new. I'm trying on Effortless Chic for size.

Oh, and finally, since Meep and Kuddles STILL could not get along, we did what any good pet owners would as a last resort : got them super drugged-up on Silvervine that they started rolling and drooling on the floor beside each other. AWESOME!

Going Organic

The cotton tote I designed finally came in last night. It's smaller than I expected and kinda regretted requesting the strap to be changed to black.

But overall its pretty neat and cute and I'd print another one once I've decided on a design.

The quote, in case you're wondering, came from A. He'd came up with a couple of random slogans and put them up on his blog. I simply picked the one that was most interesting, random and less tom-cruise-sounding-like-a-scientologist and more like something-that-will-go-with-your-outfits.

Of Cakes and Kinect

Whenever something calls for a photo opportunity, I'm always incredibly slow to react. Which means that these are only 20% of the actual moments/people that ought to be captured during last night's impromptu kinect party at home. First off, it was held on a Monday evening during the FIRST working day of 2011. Secondly, none of these were planned. I came home to a roomful (ok, four, maybe five) friends and family members set up in a faux assembly line, assisting Wardah with her wedding invitation cards. Then, my brother called in to say that he'll be bringing friends over. The next thing you know, I was cooking a potful of boiled Linguine, chopping garlic and heating chocolate fondue over an extremely slow fire.

It was also Yana's birthday, so yeah, there were some cakes, inappropriately-placed candles and an expected off-pitched singing of a birthday song. But all in all, we had fun, I'm sure they did too and I need to brush up on my photography reflex.

The cards I designed for Wardah was done. Except for a couple of printing disasters, the rest was completed with no hiccups.

Looks better than my own wedding invite I must say and I hope that she's pleased with it. Now they are working on to print Nizam's cards.

For all their efforts, I hope they are happy with the results.

I remembered back when I was in the midst of my wedding prep, we were also renovating our home. Tension was inevitable, stress was pulpable and there where plenty of tears, grovelling and hair-pulling in-between. But alhamdullilah, I had my family and Aidil to thank for because everything fell into place.

Looking back, I kinda miss the preparation part (minus the madness of course), it brings families closer together and you'd soon appreciate the meaning of blood and patience.

The man's a happy pup because he got a very good deal on the Xbox DJ Hero set that he had been eyeing for months. Apparently, a store in town had cut down the price from an original $399 to a freaking $79 (!!) And this is the Renegade version which comes with it's own table and some extra additions like a Jay-Z and Eminem CD . Ok, so the CD isn't really a big whoop (since neither of us are a fan of Hip Hop music) but still it was a steal.

So this first photo basically shows how elated he is, so much so that ~~I even~~ he made me recorded the unboxing (Will be posting that up on youtube later, amongst the plethora of other unboxing videos that the hub had done so far)

And here's what the DJ Hero the unboxed version looks like. Basically the deck's in the case, so you can't see it now. I chose this photo because its kind of amusing how we made it into a snack table (but that's to be expected, right?) and meep's at the bottom looking all pissed like 'Why the HELL didja put the food that far up, human?!".

Here's me with a (borrowed) tail. I took this photo because I wanted to twitpic the shoes but I liked how meep always had to be in EVERY SINGLE PHOTO taken of what I wore. He's like my permanent accessory.

Anyways, its December. I'll be clearing my leave soon which leaves me plenty of time to blog and post up more photos -- I hope.

I know that my blog entries have been becoming more sporadic and less frequent lately.

I’ve been telling myself to take as many photos as possible every single day so that my Bits of Weekends sections will be full of photo-posts. But since I’ve been relying a lot on my iPhone lately, most of the photos did not turn out too good. In fact, I am even considering taking out our rusty old SLR from the camera box where it has been lying unused and repairing it’s sad little injured lens.

I’ve also been trying to curb myself from posting too many fashion/shopping related entries as this blog is dangerously teethering into something that defines ME and not US.

I have to keep reminding myself that this blog has been around since we were together and had been a little happy jamboree of all our thoughts, ideas and lil bits of our lives.
And even though SOMEONE don’t seem to blog anymore, I should still respect the fact that it’s a shared journal and not a personal shopping list.

Little Bits of Our Weekends will stay and everything else will have to go.

At Wendy's

Chilling at the Balcony @ Mom's

Tried the drums, wasn't too successful

Didn't have much time to pull together plenty of photos but my weekends (starting Fri night) were pretty productive nonetheless. Tried Wendy's for the first time. I wasn't too impressed with the result as it didn't live up much to the hype. Though the chicken has good seasoning, it was a tad salty. The only thing I was pretty thrilled with was the fact that the burgers come in unique foil-like wrappers that you can crumple into small foil balls and do magic like these.

Slept over at my mom's on Saturday where we did alot of chilling by the balcony. Aidil did his thing while I struggled to master the chords to Feist's So Sorry - which would be my favourite song at this moment in time. Not that it had any particular meaning for me, but simply b'cos her voice is ... well, you judge for yourself.

Anyways, I downloaded AmpKit+ to record some of those itty bitty stuff I did on the guitars and the uke and it was pretty awesome. Not my recordings, the app. Basically, with this app you get to apply all sort of pedal effects, noise filters and add those unnecessary reverbs and sustains that make your voice and guitar playing alot (and i mean ALOT) nicer than it actually is ...without paying tons of money for the actual gear.

Though am not too sure how this will actually help me, seeing that I'm probably the only one who will hear those recordings. Um, so yeah, it rocks.

To make up for the incredibly stressful week, I initiated a quick getaway to our nearby island, Sentosa. Its been a while since we've been there and I needed some perk-me-up sunshine on the beach. Bought a cooler bag just for this simply because I couldn't find a pretty wicker picnic basket. Made pasta, pizza, sandwiches, fried spicy drumlets and we're good to go.

It was a short little adventure on asia's favourite playgroud with its pretty beaches, shiny new architectures, colourful people and beaming hot sun.

We might go again this month because of the awesome looking Spooktacular Sentosa poster

Weekend was spent indoors.

Meep had two new cat-visitors over the past week and he hid in the small corners while they (the cats) took over his territory, eating from his bowl, drinking his water and hissing at him when he merely look their way.

Obviously, he has self esteem issues.

We gently hosed him down with water - not to punish him - but because he was due for a bath.
He smells wonderfully lavendar now and still did not refuse a cuddle despite our tough love act. We'll take good behaviour + non grudging heart over low self-esteem anyday <3

HOMAIGOWWWWDDDD is this blog even relevant any more ?

I guess not, but because I'm feeling exceptionally generous and creative today and more importantly, conveniently willing, let me provide an update or two.

Raya morning was at Pontian again this year. Followed by a gathering of my side of the family at Woodlands and then back to Jurong

And because we are typically hardworking and diligent kids, we acceded to usual tasks that are becoming almost like a routine during the eve and 1st day of Raya.

We even traveled all the way back to Singapore on public transportation (horrors of all horrors) and miraculously survived the long and arduous journey with big smiles on our faces.

Albeit with slightly unkempt hair.

And of course, there's the usual share of tear-jerking scenes with loved ones, lepak-nak-mampos nonsensical chatter and gastronomical indulgence of unhealthy, coconut-laden delicacies.

Ahh...Selamat hari rayerr.

We made a short trip to KL one week ago just to get away from hustle and bustle of Meep.

Nah, just kidding. (We love you Meep, eye boogers and all)

it’s been a while since we went on holiday and since it’s our one year anniversary, we figured, hell, why not jump onto a bus and make our way to the nearest reasonably-priced four-star hotel that is NOT within Singapore ?

So jumped we did.

And feast-ed, spa-ed and shisha-ed and other assorted activities that one would probably be able to do in Singapore as well but for less the price.

It was nothing too romantic or too exciting but yet, just perfect enough a getaway for two old-time honeymooners.

And the best part ? We tried Krispy Kremes ! Yeeessss abit of an old news, since everyone else seems to be waxing lyrical about it already.

But you see, the difference here is that I am a bit of a drip when it comes to donuts. I prefer the boring ol sugar-coated or chocolate sprinkled even though theres a variety of other flavours to choose from. So when I tried Original Glazed for the first time, I was like ‘wow’.

I think I understood homer a little bit better now.

Those thin flying rod-things in the sky ain't birds.

I thought they were pelts of rain, aidil insisted they were skyfishes.

We are still debating on it now.

And there's also buildings which are still standing albeit a miserable skeletal frame of what used to be there.

why they did not demolish the front of the building as well ? beats me. but its fun to take photos of random semi-demolished buildings.

We had breakfast at a rooftop eatary. the food sucks but at least we get to people watch at the streets below and stare aimlessly at dandruffs and other random bald heads.

at night we went for the hotel spa only cause we couldn't figure out what else to do.
We tried out the fish spa - the one where you have some tiny fat fishes nibble your feet for a bit.

Here's dil looking/feeling very macho about it.

oh. and i have to blog about this -- THE AUTOMATED SCI-FI LOOKING LAVATORY aka the coin-slot toilet which everyone else thought was a lift.

I was so excited that i spent $0.60 ($0.20 per entry) to check it out three times.

I went in and it felt like a star trek moment (except for the part wherein i panicked because the door wouldn't open and imagined that i would have to live in the metal box, eating on toilet paper FOREVER)

thank god it did opened 15mins later.

and i did my no. 2 elsewhere.

shisha's a booming business over there and the price ranges from RM$33 (olio dome) to RM $18 (some roadside eatery) depending on the type of cafe you go to.

and of course, this blog post wouldn't be complete without some shameless posing and camwhoring.
Only cause this is our blog and we can.

Oh Happy Home

Can't believe it's been almost a year since we got married and shifted into our new home.
We've heard horror stories unimaginable relating to the burden of living independently and the added stress of financial responsibilities coupled with living with each others' habits & quirks.
Fortunately for us, we've settled in comfortably and none of negative things had occured to make us regret our decision.

Honestly, we've had such fun over the months that its been like two teenagers living together - doing crazy stuff. It was wild decorating the house, thinking of new projects to do and adding new things to our home.

Its like playing The Sims really, only much more fun :)

Anyways, being a big fan of bold colours and graphic arts, we've recently mounted more frames to our walls and are pretty happy with the results.

I bought these fabrics and wooden stretchers from Ikea separately.

Finally mounted the Marimekko fabric I bought from ReproDepot at the dining area.
Guess where I got it stretched ? At a corner art/framing shop right next to my own home!

I fell in love with this paper hot air balloon and bought it for our guest room. Saw it in a quaint Japanese-inspired little stationary shop @ Jurong Point, of all places!
If only this paper hot air balloon is fire resistent ! I'd add a bulb and get it to light up all pretty !

Red Ring of Death

I think we just lost it.

Our ability to stay sane in a moment of crisis just got thrown out of the window because… we just bought A NEW XBOX TO REPLACE THE OLD ONE IN LESS THAN AN HOUR APART.WTF.
First the Red Ring of Death had to happen. In BOB (Brothers of the Box)-speak that means your xbox just went ape-shit and 99.99% chances are you won’t be able to continue on your pirate quest in The Secret of Monkey Island.

Next come the frustration, hair pulling and other assorted groveling by the TV console while the husband insists on his mcGuyer-y rescue mission for the 15379,9812th time.

After a couple of unsuccessful tweaking followed by ten or twenty violent hammering using the base of the screw driver, I just had to say it :

“Hausbern, let’s go get a new one” (In all seriousness, too, if I may add.)

So there we went, holding hands and merrily skipping away to JP. In the act of complete ignorance, we went up to gadget store and coyly asked the attendant if the latest version comes with the ‘Jasper’ unit. In less than a second, we walked out of the store with a nifty little plastic bag.

The impact hit us much much later. We just bloddy forked out $339 without a moments’ pause; as if the XBOX is a precious commodity that requires immediate replacement upon extensive wear - like how you would a fridge or a washing machine.

Even Meep’s sleep wasn’t interrupted. He woke up to the usual sound of the video game sound blaring and simply plonk himself next to the speaker unit.

Fret Not, Guys. I’m Still Alive.

My involvement in several intensive projects at work accounted for my major lack of updates.

Now that things have relatively settled and a couple of the events are over, I guess it’s safe to say that I can depend on a comfortable relapse of my blog habits.

Or a semblance of it, at least.
Alright, a couple of milestone-y details while I was away :

June 02 – Meep went for his ball-busting surgery. I’ll post some pics of these soon. He survived and leapt back to health, purring and scratching in no time

June 03 – I went for the SIMS 3 launch, yeah cos im a dork like that. Went into my game frenzy the moment the goods reached by paws but ended it prematurely because my HP tablet just couldn’t cut it. Because of this, hausbern and I decided to get an iMac come September.

July 7 – The EVENT DAY at work. All was well except for the a couple of minor hiccups. Guess the hard work paid off.

Well that’s it. You can tell how interesting my life has been.
Course, that’s saying something especially now with world issues that’s been going on lately.
You know, what with the bombing, the plunge into global economic recession, wacko jacko dead and HINI... yadda yadda yadda.

For that, I’ve decided to make Thursdays my official WTFSTFU Day…just to kick things up a little, yknow ??

Like Superman

Meep’s a wondercarpet.

That’s a new term I’ll gladly dole out for a furry creature that basically does nothing but eat sleep poop and functions as your basic feet warmer.

Somehow for reasons known only to him, my infamously sloth-like cat doesn’t behave like how a cat normally would.

Let me illustrate this point :

Throw a ball at Meep, he will look at the moving object, twitches his whiskers..and go back to sleep
Call his name and he will shift his body ever-so-slightly, blinks at you once…and go back to sleep
Point a laser pen his way, he will bat with his furry paw ONCE and that’s it.

I even experimented by placing a tissue on his head

…and, it manage to remain there for a whole 20mins.

I’m lucky if he manage to even throw a glance my way cause he seems SO uninterested in anything that goes on around him.

But I love him still. Because he gives out the sweetest meow ever when he wants food or company and will look at you with the largest doe-eyes that can make you melt.

He still stinks though, as I’ve can’t give him a bath because of his flea meds.
But he makes a good cuddly pal even though he smells a lot like tuna.

Meet Meep the Cat

*Edit* Meep’s a stray cat we adopted from a local pound last Friday. He’s an adorable unneutered 1-year old exotic shorthair who can possibly be the most sweetest & most docile animal I’ve ever met. He’s a little shy right now, preferring to hide in the small corners under the sofa - coming out only eat and/or poop. It’s only been 3 days but we love him to bits! He enjoys being petted but is still not trusting enough to remain still for a good long cuddle. We’ll be sending him to the vet in about a month’s time to be neutered and for his 2nd booster shot. Hopefully by then, this flat-faced feline will be comfortable being part of our family

After weeks of searching and going to all the local pounds everywhere on the island (and by all, I meant 2) we have finally adopted a cat. He’s ugly, mangy, looks like a cross breed between a Persian and a pug-faced bulldog (don’t worry he is pure CAT) and we’re gonna love him to bits!
Husband’s still sourcing for an electric guitar. (Can’t believe it’s much easier to decide on a CAT)
I bought tons of cherry tomatoes last sun and I don’t know why
Bea Arthur RIP-ed last week and I’m deeply affected. I’ve watched that show when I was much much younger and back then the cast were ancient enough for me to deduce that they were age-irrelevant humanoids. The news just throws my entire theory out of whack. Nevertheless, Bea, you’ll be missed.

Wood Letterings

The Amy Butler fabric I bought from Etsy's finally up. It took a while to have them stretched because we couldn't find a suitable-sized stretcher. In the end, we sourced Ikea for the 12" x 12" wooden picture frames - took out the glass and used that instead !

Wooden letterings were purchased separately from Spotlight. It cost me a pretty penny but I'm pretty happy with the results.

P/S I realised later on Daiso sold similar wood letterings, albeit in smaller size.

Sun Smells Real Loud in the Eastern Bedroom

I slept a little late last night, staying up with the husband to put up some of the stuff we purchased from Ikea and to work on the crafty small things for the décor.

I designed & printed some posters inspired by the Typography posters sold at ridiculous prices online. I’d do some stenciling too, if I had the time.

The wall decals are up too, but I thought it made the room too kiddy and husband remarked that it looked like a nursery. We’ll think of some other things to replace it with, some other day.

We have finally gotten the time to stretch those Amy Butler fabrics I bought online 5 months ago. We're pretty proud of these since we took alot of pains finding resources on the most affordable stretcher we could find as we paid $120 just for the huge one in our dining area.

For this size, husband did this on his own using $5 Riba frames found in IKEA and it worked just fine.

Yes, we even painted the mirror shelf because the white laminates had gotten yucky.

Shades in the room, like finally.

Now all it needs is a cute blue rug, a pouffe stool/Eames rocking chair, side table, a chest, a throw, tons of cushions and a floor lamp.

Whew all that work, and we’re not even sleeping in this room.

Home Rejuvenation

we went to ikea last sun to pick up a couple of items that's been on our home to-do list since like, oh forever ?

i can get all excited when it comes to decorating and will go all out to make sure that i get the look/design that i want ( i know, very hitler of me, but i cant help it) but my flashes of inspirations and gungho-ness are sometimes just that - flashes. like a semangat dua menet that comes when i see something online and get all excited about and then died away as soon as i get lazy-arsed or too busy.

anyways, our house was pending a couple of things to be done. some are pretty obvious things, like the wall that lacks paint for example or posters or picture frames that have yet to be hung. it came down to a point whereby we started making excuses like 'oh we meant to have it like that' or 'we thought it looked better this way' and stopped at that.

i woke up one day and realised the procrastination has to stopped at one point and we need pull our socks up. Especially since me & dil have spent like a huge chunk of our salary on items that have yet to find a permanet place in our house.

so now we are getting started on the guest room. For a start.

now let's see if we'll ever move on the next room sometime this year.

Cat-Fight

Kud’s kimora-lee-diva attitude just shot up 500% when Naz & family came by our house yesterday. She strutted around with her nose and butt high up in the air, sniffing other people toes and clawing or running away when they tried to touch her.

She jumped onto bookcases, jumped onto the dinner table and almost-jump out the open balcony because she’s bored or stark raving mad. And when she’s done, she’ll sits on her throne (our Panton chair) like Her Majestic Queen of Scot-frickin-land waiting to bat at anyone who comes near her.

I had to resort to grabbing her furry little hide and putting her in her cage where she will behave better but being a Queen of Melodramatics, she started meowing and purring and stretching out her furry feline paws asking to be released. She got her way naturally despite my resolve to ignore her fake pitiful cries because Aidil couldn’t stand it and released the bolt.

She was pissed at me because I swear she scoffed and gave me the wonky eye treatment as she walked passed me. I mentally shook my fist at her and it became a battle of sorts between me and that bratty hairball. She gave me the icy treatment and I gave her a double shot of that by ignoring her.

She won naturally, because eventually I had to throw a paper ball at her ‘cos she jumped on the dinner table again.

I swear if I speak cat talk, I would say ‘meow meow meooow meow OK’ which basically means ‘wake up your bloddy attitude, pull up your socks and go frickin find a job’.

No. Yes. No, mostly it will mean ‘please clean up your own litter’ and then I will give her the wonky eye in ten quick succession to state my point.

Grrr, I love that silly psycho bitch.

But you know what ? screw you willis-fans cos RDJ will beat BW ANYTIME.

kuddles is getting along perfectly with her new temp-family. she was intially wary and nervous around us, even biting and scratching our hands when we tried to pet her. slowly, the icy facade melts away as she's now following me wherever i go and purrs whenever we stroke or cuddle her. she's a belle - a hi-class princess that doesnt take too kindly with stranger, eats with the tiniest bite and only when the food is not too stale or too cold. she has a massive amount of hyper energy though. she'll purr insistently and circles around my feet when she wants to play. Even after i stop playing with her, she'll zip around the house like a canonball in her own pretend-hunting moment and playfully attack my ankles and running away to hide to get me to play with her again. tiring, but really adorable..

Sometimes when you are used to living your entire life in a met city you can't help but develop a deep affection for smoke, starbucks coffee and automobiles.

Fashion-wise, i love simple clothes with a touch a quirkiness and its just so bloddy unfair that the only ones found are never available in this country and/or cost a frickin $734 CAD.

This trench coat had me professing my clothes-lust cos i'm just a poor sucker for colourful prints.

Cat-Literature

I bought more posters because i got caught up with the spray painting frenzy and decided that we needed more wall-decor in the homey. If martha stewart was to have a may december affair with neil buchanan and miraculously spawned an asian child with lesser-artistic fingers and an oversized credit card bills, that'll be me. books and art. my only 2 vices. I barely have any nice clothes any more because I'll spend all my salary on things that can't even be taken out of the house. yes cos i'm sick like that.

weekend was funnn.. it was just me and hausbern. and it was rare to be able to spend so much time alone together, driving each other up the wall (in a good way). went to vivo sat night and blew a hundred on books and then spent the rest of sunday lounging on the couch just reading and watching lano & woodley.

on a side note, we'll be cat-sitting for my nadia's little kitty as my aunt & their family will be going to scotland in april. im a little freaked out cos ive never lived in the same house with a feline creature before, albeit temporarily. but excited too cos gah, it does get lonely sometimes. plus, it'll be a hoot to watch dil call out its name (it's name is Cuddles) & i prolly break out in laughter and tears because i could never imagine such a cutesy word be uttered frm the im-a-man-boy lips of his.. and, dear, pls promise, no seaweed this time.

The Breakfast Club

Despite the falter of my body immune system of late, I barely had enough rest over the weekend.

It was well-spent but tiring nevertheless.
On the downside, hausbern became the next victim of the Unnamed Virus, a nasty bacteria that hits the blood vessels in your head causing a freaking prolonged headache that makes you almost nauseas. Of course, if that alone isn’t enough, it comes with a side serving of body chills, constant snot-laden nose and occasional fever. Therefore, its goes without saying that he spent Sunday afternoon holed up in the room clutching his head and crouching over in pain.

While tending to his food and needs, I was running everywhere else because as usual, my relatives had picked the perfect time to come over for our now-almost-regular family meet-up. Anyway it was a celebration of the March birthdays as well as a visit to see my grandmother who was in Sg. We wanted to dine out initially but as usual, nenek wasn’t keen. So back at my house for home-cooked food it was, apparently.

Oh ! and lest I forgot, my kitchen was not spared from our recent gadget-centric insanity because we bought a smoothie maker !
Because of the recent health fiasco I’ve concluded that we’ve haven’t had enough vitamins and nutrients in our diets. We barely have any vegetables at home and all fruits stuffed in our fridge will eventually turn to brown mush. The only solution to the horrifying diet debacle is to indulge ourselves with delicious fruit smoothies and eventually keep all the evil viruses at bay !
(Of course, an occasional chocolate-vanilla milkshake liquid diet wouldn’t hurt either. :S)

We didn’t spent much time mulling over the different models ‘cos we just wanted one that’s easy to use , has high voltage and good blades that could crush ice.

We settled on Kenwood Smoothie Concert because of its nifty little dispenser tap
It comes with a recipe book, too so we'll let you know the outcome of our upcoming hi-fibre diet.

Bactrim Non Grata

I’m both mentally and physically spent. I’ve been swallowing meds and drinking fluids and channeling all my energy into getting better but unfortunately my body seems to be worse for the wear.
It’s not helping that hausbern’s away on RT – for 5 days needless to say – therefore I’ve had to fight this battle alone. Grandma’s at home with me today so I guess it’s not too bad as she attended to all the nutritious food that I needed during this trying moment.

Monday was scary - I had a sudden blurry vision and an attack of high fever. Then the fever subsided and was replaced with the throbbing dullness of a monstrous headache. It didn’t end til the next afternoon but my eyes were still bloodshot. I went to another doc, provided a brief description of my symptoms and he diagnosed me with a possible allergy reaction to the previous antibiotics given – Bactrim.
More meds given and it seems everything I eat now I feel like puking out. The horrendous bitter tastes seems permanently stuck to my tongue no matter how much fluid I downed.

I wish I can explain more how much this just sucks but the crux of the matter is, I’d much rather focus all my energy into getting enough rest. Bleargh :/

Kimya Dawson - Loose Lips

I love The Moldy Peaches. I loved them since Juno and loved them all over again when I saw this Spinner tube and how cute Kimya Dawson is strumming the guitar - like a female version of Jonah Hill with wild hair. And did I even mention musical genius ?

Just a fact snippet - one half of The Moldy Peaches, Aaron Wilkinson died of heroin overdose in 2003 and The Strokes's album Room of Fire was dedicated to his memory.
He was replaced in the band by a certain Adam Green whom, in my personal opinion, truly fits the geeky awkwardness of the band that makes it so appealing. The band’s on a musical hiatus, with all members embarking on their respective solo career.

And just because I mentioned Juno, here's one to kick it ol skool.

Despite all the glaring indication that I am only 3 years away from the big 3-0, I indulged myself two new toys to keep me occupied during the weekends.

One, is a new video game bought by my dearest BOBster husband and another, a fun party game purchased from Popular.

3D Movies

Hausbern’s newest DVD purchase came with a set of four 3D paper glasses – which became an unsuspecting prop in our webcam caper (read previous entry).

Can’t say much about the movie though. I fell asleep with the glasses still plastered to my face while my two companions continued watching with heavily-mustachioed faces drawn with eyeliners like a human etch-a-sketch.

Anyway, 3D movies has now became hausbern’s latest obsession and he’s been looking for another reason to wear the red and blue paper accessory.

As a self-professed Kat Dennings-phile, last weekend marked my foray into the celeb-inspired video blog attempt.

It was hi-larious.

The cast was none other than the mad cap siblings – my hausbern, dil and wardah - and of course, yours truly.

There was no script involved. In fact, not even a single dialogue.
The rules were simple : once the webcam was rolling, all we had to do was lip-synch to Lips with overtly-exaggerated antics while remaining as deadpanned as possible.
And then, it got a little extreme when a mascara, some eyeliners, paper 3D glasses and ridiculous facial tics got into the picture.

Before you knew it – it became a scene out of the Pineapple Express – without the hallucinogenics of course – with a crazy competition on the side on who was the most deadpanned, who was the craziest and who laughed last.

Wardah won hands down.

Seriously, I think it was groucho marx inspired moustache
that did the trick.

A fun and creative use of basic pop-ups in a fantastic music vid by a

Scottish dance punk band, Shitdisco. The brill music vid is an awesome brainchild

of a creative and slightly quirky dude from UK.

I loved pop-ups storybook back then when i was a kid
and love it still now, as an adult.
I'd trade bulky paperback novels with small fine print typography
with a graphic-rich 3D paper visuals, anytime.
